Whoa....how about that ending w/ Foster?  He kinda slammed the proverbial door in her face with those closing comments about trust.  Ouch!  That whole "intervention" thing was out of character for them all...even Gillian...still trying to figure out the purpose of that...anyone?

What happened to Ria's spark and backbone???  (again the intervention thing was totally ooc)

Loved Loker getting some kudos and picking stuff up over Torres, and even Foster.

And what about his comments about his mom dying when he was young, and the Lenny James character taking him in....that seems to be contrary to his mom dying while he was in college with the Medical guy from last season....and the suicide notion while he was in school....(missed her microexpressions....)  Remember, the lady in the video talked about going home to her husband and children.    Hmmmmm...what am I missing in the timeline?   But yet, he said his mom died while he was in college....

BK played her role well...yay BK!!!!

It was kind of jarring, but I can reconcile it to myself (I think).  If Lightman was in his late teens - early college age - when it happened, it still makes sense for another family to "take him in," because not many college students are able to support themselves and stay in school.  Even if he was living at school and lived with them on holidays, it isn't too farfetched.

I don't remember Lightman saying his mum died while he was in collage. When was that? I remember Ria and Gillian discussing it but not Cal placing it in a time frame. If he did I should point out that collage in the UK is different from the common use of the word collage in the USA, in the UK it usually refers to the final couple of years in our high school equivalent, 16-18 years old, where teens can go to collage to do their a-levels or vocational qualifications rather than remain in school. Univeristy is the higher education level. Could Cal have been studying psychology? It is an option at A level and getting work experience placements is not unusual, especially if the incentive is that his mum had a history of depression. But maybe it was something he studied later on after his mum died and noted the microexpressions by looking at the old footage.

I enjoyed the episode. Loker was very good. The intervention thing did not seem out of character with Gillian or Loker but possibly Ria. however, I did find that scene quite amusing.

I liked the episode ok. I like the dynamic between Lightman and Terry. I laughed every time Cal smacked him on the head. The plot overall was kind of predictable, but it was fun to watch.

I loved the Cal/Gillian stuff at the beginning. I think my favorite part was when Terry introduces himself to Gillian and then calls her Gil, Cal corrects him and says her name is Gillian. I love the way he says her name. I did not like the ending with him and Gillian in the hall. I thought he was a little harsh. She probably went a little too far with the whole intervention thing, but her motives were good. Maybe there still is "that line" between them.

I too thought there was something a little wonky with the Lightman timeline, but after watching Depraved Heart and The Best Policy, there aren't any real discrepancies. Cal says that his Dad skipped out before his mom died and since in the video of her in Depraved Heart she says she's going home for her husband's birthday, she must have remarried. Her last name is even different, Mason instead of Lightman.

And it's never stated how old he was when he met Jeffrey in The Best Policy, just that he'd known him a month and that Jeffrey was in college.

So now with all three episodes, we know quite a lot about Cal's early years, here's hoping there's more to come.

You took the words right out of my mouth.  I remember having a similar response to the end of last year's episode when Foster gave Lightman the "line" speech.  Ouch!  Please, someone out there convince me that he did not just smack her in the face by basically saying "You're going to have to do something pretty spectacular to make yourself more important to me than Terry is."  Crazy as I sound after saying that, I'm not that shocked that he would say something like that.  I think his character is very blunt about what he sees, but he tries to hide what he really feels, from himself as well as those around him.  After last week's episode, I'm not surprised that the writers would take a step backward as they continue this dance with developing Cal and Gillian's relationship.

Overall, I liked the episode.  It wasn't my favorite, but it's going to take a lot to top "Honey."  The beginning was great.  I like the way Torres was following Lightman and Foster while they were bantering about Foster's dating habits.  I think Torres wonders how Foster brings out that nice, jovial guy when no one else can.

In the Pharmeceutical (sorry for the spelling) episode, Jeffrey and he met at Oxford.  Then he says that they'd only known each other a month when Jeffrey skipped out with him after his mom died.

I guess that might indicate that they met in their first year, there, would that still qualify as his mom dying when he was young?  I guess when I hear people speaking about a parent dying when they were young, it usually refers to adolescence and prior.

The intervention scene just seemed wierd, like it was tacked on at the end to get the jab in on Gillian....

I think you are absolutely right about this! The writers are developing the relationship between Lightman and Foster very slowly and sometimes that means two steps forward (ending of "Honey") and one step backwards (ending of "Grivous Bodily Harm").  If their interation between them was always "good" it would get boring and we wouldn't be so inclined to come back for more.

OK, I have a few questions about last night's episode if someone can help me.

1.) Was this Terry guy supposed to be Cal's "nemesis" that was mentioned to appear this season?

2.) Was this the "Vegas" episode? The card playing took place in D.C. right?

3.) I didn't really understand the whole plot of this show. So, Lightman knew early on that the  bouncer at the club was really a FBI agent out for Terry? What about the "bad guy" that was trying to buy the counterfeit money, was he in on this too? What happened to him and his guys at the end?

Help me understand this please!

Thanks!

I have another question:

Who was the actor who played the Terry character? Is he really British, because his accent sure sounded like it!

Cal doe's say that he was at Oxford when his mum died, if he was in his first year that would make him 18, so that is still pretty young for someone to lose a parent. As it is very expensive to study at Oxford ( I know first hand i did my degree there) it would make sense that some other family would have needed to support him, and with the living costs in London being so high he would need to live with someone during Christmas/summer holidays as staying in halls of residence wouldn't be an option.

As for the last bit with Foster. Watch her face. I don't think he is slapping her down, i think , in his blunt Cal Lightman way, was trying to explain why he shut her and the rest of the team out. If you watch she doesn't seem hurt or angry, more saddened by what he was saying. That's the way I took it anyway.
